Fun at St Crux
On 24 March we had a fund raising day at St Crux Church Hall which was very successful, and raised £1200 for mill maintenance. The money went toward replacing the long timber rules which operate the sail shutters. At St Crux visitors could buy soup and cakes made by mill supporters and bread rolls made by Ainsty Farm Shop from windmill flour. Santa in the Windmill
December is almost here and Santa has promised to visit Holgate Windmill again this year. He'll be bringing his sack of presents, for children aged 0 to 11, to the mill on Saturday 3rd, Sunday 4th and Saturday 10th December from 2 to 4 pm, and Sunday 11th December from 10am to 12 and 2 to 4 pm. No booking is required but come early as it will be busy. The cost is £5 per child, with accompanying adults enjoying the fun for free. “Picturing the Mill” – Photography for a Summer Saturday
What's happening? One of our resident photographers, Nick Ansell, will be at the mill this Saturday. He will be displaying a selection of images he has captured of the mill and it's restoration over the years. You'll be able to see the mill in it many moods and discuss different aspects of it's photography. Summer Saturdays
We're looking forward to July as we will be starting our Summer Saturdays, which are extra events in the mill on open day Saturday afternoons. We begin on 2 July with a demonstration of traditional hand spinning from Madeline Evans of York and District Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. See how easy it looks then try it yourself! On 16 July Jenny Hartland, one of the creators of this year's exhition Seeing the Wood and the Trees will talk about woods, what we use them for and where they are found in the windmill.
